The new preparation method of chitosan stearate and its structure properties

Chitosan stearate was prepared by using solid chitosan acetate as raw material and water as the reaction medium.The structure of chitosan stearate samples was characterized by the FT-IR, XRD and SEM and oil adsorption capacity of the production was determined. The results indicated that the optimal preparation conditions of the ionic compound of chitosan stearate were 1 : 1 of molar ratio for raw materials, 70 ~ 75 ℃ of temperature and 30 minutes reaction time. The production showed rough surface and porous microstructure.The oil adsorption capacity of chitosan stearate was determined under different p H conditions.The results showed that the environmental p H almost didn't affect on the oil adsorption capacity of chitosan seterate.The chitosan seterate showed better oil adsorption capacity, which was about 3 ~ 5 times higher than that of the plain chitosan under weak acid and neutral conditions.Chitosan stearate prepared by this method was easily filtered and washed, and the yield reached over 85%. The method was environmental without organic solvent, convenient and immediate without p H adjustment and suitable to volume production.
