Abstract
In this study,we studied anti-aging effects of Lactobacillus salivarius using C. elegans as model, and the anti-aging mechanism of Lactobacillus salivarius was also clarified. The results showed that feeding Lactobacillus salivarius significantly extended the mean life span of C. elegans by up to 11.9%(p <0.05),compared to that of control nematodes. The reduced pharyngeal pumping rate, growth, and increased superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity and XTT reduction capacity were also observed in Lactobacillus salivarius feeding worms(p<0.05),indicating that anti-aging activity of Lactobacillus salivarius may be associated with energy restriction. Our study provided the direct evidence for the anti-aging function of Lactobacillus salivarius, and formed the foundation for developing the anti-aging probiotics.
