Abstract:
In order to study the effects of jasmonates (JAs) on the metabolism of reactive oxygen species in the peel of postharvest apple fruit, the ‘Golden Delicious’ apple fruit were treated with 0.5 mmol/L and 1.5 mmol/L of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) after harvest, respectively. The physiological indexes related to the metabolism of reactive oxygen species in the peel of postharvest apple fruit during storage at ambient temperature were investigated. The results showed that, compared with controls, different concentration of MeJA treatment promoted fruit softening and chlorophyll degradation in the peel, accelerated the superoxide anion(O
2-·) generation rate, promoted the accumulation of H
2O
2 and malondialdehyde (MDA), accelerated the decrease of total soluble solids(TSS) content in fruit and the ascorbic acid(ASA) content in the peel, inhibited the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD),ascorbate peroxidase(APX),catalase(CAT) and peroxidase(POD) in the peel simultaneously. In conclusion,MeJA treatment inhibited the metabolism of reactive oxygen species in the peel of postharvest apple fruit, promoted the accumulation of reactive oxygen species in the peel, accelerated the peel senescence, and the inhibitory effect of 1.5 mmol/L MeJA treatment on the metabolism of reactive oxygen species in apple peel was more obvious.
