Abstract:
The role of PLD in cell physiological activities of postharvest fruits and vegetables is discussed in this article. When fruits and vegetables are exposed to stress( high and low temperature stress, mechanical damage, drought stress) or in their senescence process, phospholipase D( PLD),the initial enzyme in lipid catabolism pathways,is mainly involved in the degradation of membrane. Besides,PLD also acts as an important role in transmembrane signaling and cell regulation. PLD activity and its mRNA expression show an increasing trend during the process, therefore leading to the damage of cell membrane integrity and the quality of postharvest fruits and vegetables.PLD activity could be inhibited by PLD inhibitors, which helps to moderate the degradation of cell membranes and maintain the quality of fruits during storage.
