Abstract:
Object:To study the inhibition of exogenous ethylene in potato sprouting.Methods:Potatoes were treated by solid ethylene releasing agents and effect of exogenous ethylene on the initial time of potato sprouting and sprouting index was observed.Results:Exogenous ethylene was effective in delaying sprouting time for about 8~10d.The higher the concentration of ethylene, the better the inhibition effect was.Potatoes treated repeatedly showed better effect than once treated, which sprouting index was declined by 15%.Moreover, treatment of solid ethylene releasing agents dipped in water was more effective, which sprouting index was declined by almost 8%.Conclusion:Treatment of exogenous ethylene influenced the potato sprouting process, however, sprouting couldn't be suppressed completely.
